Hypnotherapy

FAQ Hypnotherapy and Hypnoanalysis Explained. Answers to the most frequently asked questions.

What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a form of psychotherapy that enables you to enlist the help of your unconscious mind to bring about therapeutic changes. Your Hypnotherapist will help you to access your inner resources to achieve realistic goals.

Hypnotherapists will normally do this by inducing a 'hypnotic trance', which is simply a state of altered awareness, not sleep or unconsciousness. Trance may be described as a 'natural learning state'.

What is Hypnosis?

Have you ever been so involved with a task that you have lost track of time? Have you ever driven from one place to another and arrived safely, but not remembered the journey? Have you ever read a book and become so involved with the plot you can see scenery and hear characters speak? Have you ever day-dreamed? These are everyday examples of an altered state of awareness.

Hypnosis is another example of an altered state of awareness-one which can be used for self help. It is a perfectly natural state which occurs between being fully awake and fully asleep. In the clinical setting hypnosis is usually accompanied by a pleasant state of physical relaxation which in itself is beneficial, especially in the symptoms induced by or aggravated by stress.

What is Suggestion Therapy:

Suggestion Therapy is 'normal' hypnotherapy. When you hear the term 'hypnotherapy' used in the media, they are (most often) referring to this type of therapy. Basically, you will be relaxed into a lovely, calm light hypnotic state (where you will be wide awake and fully in control - but nice and relaxed) and you will be given suggestions that will effect your behaviour/feelings once you are out of the hypnotic state - hence the term 'post-hypnotic suggestion'.

The type of suggestion given will depend on the symptom you are wanting help with. If you are stopping smoking, a typical suggestion would be 'you will feel a huge sense of pride and pleasure now you are a non smoker' or 'you will find it easy to live your life as a non smoker'. Note that ALL suggestions given will be completely positive, and worded very carefull in order to get the very best results. This type of therapy session is ideal for: smokers wishing to quit, a person suffering from pre-test nerves, someone wanting help with their driving test, or help with pain control - particularly for childbirth.

What is Hypnoanalysis?

Hypnoanalysis is used for more deep-seated emotional or psychological issues.  Through analysis discovery of the originating cause is identified then the effect that was experienced due to the cause can be dealt with and resolved permanently.  Such causes that produce an effect, ie., phobia, anxiety etc that produce bodily symptoms are mostly due to an intense emotionally charged event in your life that was so shocking or traumatic that it became hidden (repressed) from your conscious mind.  When this happens and you go about your daily life and a trigger to that event happens, then the repressed emotions will cause an affect albeit bodily symptom, phobia etc.  Through hypnosis and access to the subconscious, once that memory has been revealed, through disassociation therapy, your reaction to it is more rational, becomes more logical allowing the symptom to be dealt with and permanently resolved.

Is There Anything Magical About Hypnosis?

The main worry of most people is that the hypnotherapist will have some sort of magical power over them. There is no magic and the only power used is the power of your own mind

Will I Be Under The 'Power' Of The Hypnotherapist?

MOST CERTAINLY NOT - You cannot be made to do anything against your wishes or moral code. You retain full control through out the entire hypnotherapy session.

Is there free time to talk to you, to ensure I am commited to Hypnotherapy?

Would you like to find out more about how Hypnotherapy can help you, your family or people close to you?
